Welcome

Welcome to St Michael's website. We hope that it can be an up-to-date source of information and interest about St Michael’s Church, to accompany Pew News and Christian News. We would like to be able to give an impression of being not just "religious stuff" but the whole of life. Hence we would like to encourage people to help us by providing us with articles, pictures - maybe travel, local interest, history etc., and not just Church news.

Remember this is ‘your’ website, so please use it.

OUR VISION AT ST. MICHAEL'S

St. Michael's is a warm and welcoming Christian community with lively services and a growing range of activities to suit people of all ages. We have a statement of our vision for St Michael's:

  • To be people of prayer and action, loving and trusting God and serving others.
  • To be a place where all can belong, are welcomed and accepted and feel supported and inspired.
  • To be peacemakers, with all others of good will, in the struggle for a just and peaceful world.

It's not intended to be the last word! Just like ourselves, our vision is still a "work in progress".
We're very ambitious. We really believe that, with the help of God, everyone can do something to make a difference - for good! We're not content to live with problems, pain, and suffering, whether on our doorstep or the other side of the world. And we're naive enough to think that the cynics and doom mongers have got it wrong - that the world hasn't gone to the dogs - that we can all make a difference - if we work together and get on with it.

So we welcome all visitors and newcomers - and hope you'll come and see us soon!

IMPLEMENTING THE VISION

We have a number of working groups and their task is to implement, in practical ways, the ideas, which came out of our “Vision Day” in March 2009.

Several ideas/themes were not specifically addressed but will be shortly – for example Stewardship and Fundraising, Worship, International, and Mission and Ministry.

Lots of support and help are available from the clergy and our reader-in-training, Ruby Powell, our organist Anne Cooke and the choir – and a whole host of brilliant and talented people in the congregation and beyond. From time to time, the groups will welcome the help of anyone interested in their theme.

We greatly value the experience and commitment of our older members – and love the enthusiasm and energy of our younger ones. Each of us, whoever we are, has a unique and much needed contribution to make to this process of growth. At its heart is a genuine desire to love and trust God and serve others, to be a place of true welcome and to be peacemakers in our troubled world.

If we can be better signposts, pointing to Jesus through our life and witness as individuals and as a Christian community, then the implementation of our Vision will, in small but significant ways, be part of that great process of fulfilling Jesus’ work, which started when, as St John put it, “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us”.
